There is a long history of woodworking craftsmanship here on Vancouver Island using our local woods - including Bigleaf Maple, a wood favoured by our boardmakers for its practical qualities and the incredible beauty of its figured grains.
The chief difference between our craftsmen and virtually all other board makers is the use of a single plank of wood to show the true face of nature.
This is an example from the Lee Wolf Collection of a very rare Birds Eye Maple carving board. Lee Wolf boards are handcrafted from Vancouver Island Bigleaf Maple and come in a variety of figured grains, sizes, and shapes. These boards serve a number of functions, including, carving, cutting, chopping, serving and presentation. All are original, one-of-a-kind, and as practical as they are beautiful.
Boards Crafted by Todd feature a variety of custom designed rare wood inlays against a background of Vancouver Island Bigleaf Maple. This particular example was handcrafted using over 100 individual pieces of Purple Heart wood to create the grape motif - a treasure for the wine and cheese lover in your life.

The Lee Wolf Collection
The signature characteristics of a Lee Wolf cutting board are as follows;
- Each board is handcrafted from a single plank of wood
- The face of each board is uncut and shows the real grain pattern in all of its natural variation
- The shape of each board displays live and hand finished edges
- No two boards are the same in any respect
- The dimensions of each board are unique

Frequently Asked Questions
Below are answers to the questions I receive most often. If you have any other questions just email me. I'll be happy to answer them.
HOW DO I CLEAN AND CARE FOR MY BOARD?
Wash with hot soapy water, rinse and dry well. Oil occasionally with a food grade oil. The cheapest and easiest to acquire is mineral oil. You can find it in most drug stores. 100% Tung oil is also recommended. Clapham’s Beeswax salad bowl finish is another option.
Never use vegetable oils or olive oil as they will go rancid.
If your board has picked up odors (onions, garlic etc..)use the cut side of a lemon as a scrub brush and rub the board with salt or baking soda. Wash, rinse and dry well and oil again.
NEVER, EVER put your wooden boards in the dishwasher.
WHAT ABOUT SCRATCHES?
One of the questions I get asked often is “What about scratches”. My answer is always the same. What about scratches? Scratches do not mar the beauty of these boards, they just contribute to it. Don’t be afraid to use your board.
After years of use your board can be lightly sanded to return it to its original state.
HOW ARE THESE BOARDS DIFFERENT FROM MANUFACTURED BOARDS?
When you look at a wooden manufactured cutting board you will see sameness in colour, grain pattern, glued dimensional board size…..etc….. The reasons for this have everything to do with cost – variation is the greatest barrier to production efficiency. For these reasons the natural beauty of highly figured grain patterns and warm tonal variations in colour are processed out of a manufactured board.
Lee Wolf takes great pride in letting nature speak for itself. The majority of his boards are crafted from the Bigleaf Maple growing on Vancouver Island. Because he uses a single piece of wood to craft each board you will find the undisturbed beautiful face of nature on each unique board, including, the rare Birds Eye Maple , curly maple, tiger stripe, quilted, tortoise and often a spectacular mix of many of these grain patterns.
HOW DO YOU PRICE YOUR BOARDS
Prices are based on: grain, rarity, beauty, size and weight
Because these boards are all one of a kind, when a board sells there will never be another one exactly the same.
For years I’ve been sending these one-of-a-kind boards as gifts to friends all over Canada and the US. They make wonderful gifts for all occasions including weddings, birthdays Christmas. A gift that will bring many years of joy.
